Reading Test

DIBELS (Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a nationwide test that Elementary aged students take every year. By the end of first grade, first graders are expected to read 40 words a minute (Oral Reading Fluency). Our class will take the DIBLES test on April 29th. I have been sending home Fluency Passages in your child's reading folder for you to practice fluency at home.
I am very proud of the progress my students have made. Keep reading at home!

Box Tops

We are collecting Box Tops for our school wide contest. I hope our class can collect the most! Please ask your family members to save their Box Tops. Start bringing in your collected Box Tops now!

Third Nine Weeks

The 3rd Nine Weeks is now over as we begin the last grading period of first grade. I cannot believe that our school year is almost over! It seems like I just started teaching your children a few months ago. I have seen so much improvement! I encourage you to read with your child every night and not slack on reading just because summer is just around the corner.
Just a reminder, Spring Break is next week: March 17-21. I will be sending home extra books for you to read with your child over the break.

Treasure Box

Our treasure box is running low. We have so many well-behaved and high performing students in our classroom that our rewards are running dangerously low. We can use anything from pretty pencils to plastic toys. OR, if you are not sure what to bring us, you can always send cash! I have this catalog where I can buy 12 prizes for only $3.00. So a little money really does go long way. Thanks in advance.

School Clean Up Day

Our class has been involved with making posters for our Annual School Clean Up Day. It will be held on April 12, 2008. All students are invited to attend as long as an adult is with them. Also, free breakfast will be served. I hope to see you there!

Thank You

Paige's cousin came and read to our class today. She read a book called Blabber Mouse, a book about a mouse who gets in trouble when he gossips and tells secrets.

Our class really enjoys having visitors come read to them. THANK YOU!

Valentine's Day

Our class enjoyed cupcakes and juice. Our subtraction story problem of the day: We have 24 cupcakes. If all 15 students have one cupcake, how many cupcakes will be left?

We also enjoyed swapping Valentine Cards and candy with our classmates. Please do not eat all your candy tonight! Come to school ready to learn tomorrow.

HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY!

Hi Parents!

Parents,
Thank you so much for taking the time to check your child's webpage. I am in a technology class now and learning how to 'blog'. A Blog is an online collaborative form of communication. It is different from email because other readers can see our communication.
I am creating this blog for parents. If you have any questions or want to comment on anything relating to our classroom, you can do it on this blog. I will update or view the blog daily!
To post questions/comments, click on the bottom of this entry where you see comments and leave your comment there.
